Winter was here and the snow was thick and chilly on the ground. Kei was standing and watching C.L as he rode his mare around a former medow. He made everything seems so easy. He didn’t have to use his body to communicate with the mare, she followed him. She collected and extended without any problem. She didn’t make one mistake. She had her ears slightly laid back, focusing on her master. C.L Looked as a dream. Such a man you dream about on a black stead coming to rescue you from the evil witch and bring you safe back to his castle.

C.L came closer and the mare stopped just in front of Kei. She chewed on her bit as she looked at Kei with her big intelligent eyes.
- That was very beautiful, said Kei and blew into her hands, trying to warm them up a bit.
The mare sank down in a deep bow so her muzzle almost touched the snow. C.L lowered his head in a thank you gesture. The mare got up on her legs again and breathed relaxed.
- I cannot understand your bond to her… How do you do it? C.L smiled at her and sat down from her. He went up to the mares face and caressed her jawbone. He looked at Kei and to the mare as he took his other hand and placed it on where his heart would be. Kei understood.
- You hear her, don’t you? He nodded. Kei want up to the two of them and pulled the mares forelock aside. She placed a hand on the forehead and smiled.

C.L observed Kei and couldn’t help but smile. He got back to the saddle, shortened the stirrups, and went back to Kei with a offering hand to her. Kei looked at him with a uncertain smile.
- I am no dressage rider… I would never cope.
C.L insisted. She got his hand and he led her back to the saddle and helped her up. The mare glanced curious back at Kei and C.L. Kei could have sworn that she saw the mare smile through her eyes. When she had mounted she collected the reins. C.L placed a hand on the leg and looked after so everything was in order. With a encouraging nod, he backed away.

Kei was stiff and very uncertain. The mare was ready, she could feel it underneath. Her muscles was ready to bolt off, just like she always did when C.L sat in the saddle. She was use to quick starts. This was really uncomfortable. C.L observed her with friendly eyes a couple of meters away, waiting for Kei to pull herself together and ride the Friesian. Carefully she touched the mare on the sides. Nothing happened. Kei tried a bit harder, but the mare didn’t move. After a third time she reacted. She took one step forward, and then another, and another and another until they where walking in a slow paste through the snow. Kei glanced at C.L. He looked as if he talked with someone, but he didn’t move his lips.

After a while Kei got comfortable. She was relaxed and the mare was also relaxed. She didn’t move as she did with C.L, but non the less, the moved as a Friesian does. The bad memories riding on the mare disappeared. All the times she had bumped into the saddle and lost her balance over and over again, making C.L hold her so she didn’t fall off. Not once lost Kei her balance, the mare trotted with easy steps, winning ground beneath her. Kei could see that C.L still “talked” to someone.

Kei held the mare in and loosened the reins a bit. The mare nodded appreciating as she mumbled quiet. C.L came up to them. He smiled as Kei and gave the mare a satisfying look. The mare neighed a mareish neigh and looked at C.L as he passed her by to help Kei out of the saddle. Kei pulled her leg over the mares back and sat with both legs on the same side. C.L got a firm grip around her waist and lifted her down. Kei got a hold on his shoulders. He placed her on the ground and smiled.
- While I was riding, I swear I could see you talking to someone, with your mind. Did you talk to her?
C.L nodded and went forward to the mares head. Kei followed and placed herself in front of the mare while C.L was next to her head.
- So, you can talk with horses? C.L smiled. All horses?
C.L nodded but pointed at the mare.
- You can talk to horses, but you choose not to? Kei said it carefully and C.L nodded. He only heard his own horse, because he didn’t want to hear any other horse. It’s like when you find your soul mate, then you will be faithful throughout your life.

C.L went for the saddle pack while Kei held the mare company. Kei caressed the mares muzzle and she murmured delighted.
- You are a beautiful horse and very dear to C.L, I understand that. The mare looked at her, as if she already knew what Kei was saying.
- But do you think you can chare him? It was a whisper, but it didn’t sound like one. The mare leaned her head against Kei’s chest, made a almost soundless neigh as a whisper and exhaled.
